This guide explains whether the requirement applies to you, the policy specifications consulates check, and the mistakes that lead to a policy being rejected. ## Is insurance mandatory for a Russian visa? - **Mandatory:** for citizens of Schengen countries and a number of other countries, whether they enter on a paper visa or an e-Visa. - **Required by some consulates:** some Russian consulates include it in the document lists for additional nationalities, so check the list of the consulate you are applying to in your country of residence. - **Recommended for everyone else:** even if it is not required in your file, Russian law allows border authorities to ask about valid medical insurance in certain cases. If your nationality is one that must have insurance, the requirement also applies to the e-Visa, and you must carry the policy when you enter, as the border officer may ask for it.
