What is a certified translation?

A certified translation is issued by a licensed translator or translation office, and carries their stamp, signature and a statement that it matches the original document. With this stamp, the translator takes responsibility for the accuracy of the translation, and visa centres and official bodies accept it.

Some embassies require a higher standard: a sworn translation by a translator accredited with that embassy, as in some applications for Spain and Germany. Check your embassy’s checklist before you order.

Do you need to translate all your visa documents?

Most Schengen embassies and the UK accept documents issued in English without translation. You only need to translate documents issued in Arabic, such as Arabic bank statements, marriage contracts or local employer letters. Some embassies may ask for translation into their own language instead of English.

The full Schengen document list is in our guide to Schengen visa requirements.
